Playing up & borrowing
Who can take the court in which age group, how borrowing works on game day, and where MWNA sets the final word. Use this page together with the manager team builder — mark anyone playing up with the squad flag so convenors and the published squad can see the flag.
Playing up guidelines
MWNA competition rules
- •No player shall play in a lower grade than the team in which the player is registered and graded.
- •A player from a lower grade may play in a higher grade, provided that, having played four (4) matches in any higher grade, the player automatically becomes a registered member of the lowest higher team in which they have played. Players can play up a maximum of 3 times before being moved to another team permanently.
- •Two (2) wet weather half games played on the same day count as one (1) game.
- •Registered junior players who are 13 years and over may only play up in a senior team, as a reserve, for three matches, after which they are considered senior for the completion of the season.
- •Any 10–15 year A grade or equivalent divisional player playing up one (1) age group may only play A or B grades.
- •An A grade playing up two (2) or more age groups may only play A, B or C grades.
- •An A or B grade player playing up one (1) age group may only play in A, B or C grades. Playing up two (2) or more age groups — A, B, C or D grades. All other grades follow the same pattern.
- •When a club fields more than one (1) team in a grade, players may not interchange in that same grade, except prior to season commencement by a date decided by council each year.
Penalty — ineligible player
- •Winning team: loss of 3 competition points; opposition awarded 2 points.

Official references
The MWNA PDF is the association reference for caps, paperwork, and eligibility. Use it together with the manager team builder and your convenor before approving playing up or borrowed players.
Quick reminders
Same guidance as the manager team workspace (updates when that content is wired to a live source).
- Use the manager team builder to mark anyone playing up from a lower age group with the squad flag so convenors and the published squad see it clearly.
- Playing up is for a registered player filling a spot on an older team — not the other way around.
- Borrowing and short-term fill-ins must follow MWNA caps and paperwork; confirm eligibility with your convenor before game day.
